Hi! Hunter here!
I started my second day in San Fransisco being awoken by my WONDERFUL husband who surprised me with a hazelnut latte and a chocolate truffle! Great way to start the day, let me tell you!
After Dustin cooked me and Hannah breakfast, we headed out onto the town.
We stopped in at a bubble tea place for some takoyaki(deep-fried octopus balls) and Okinawa/Thai tea with boba bubbles! It was quite delicious, something I know my sis Amber would have LOVED. Eating at this place really made me miss her a lot ;'(
From eating lunch we kept walking around town. There was a lot to look at on the streets of San Fransisco. Everything was very colorful and we got to see some very interesting looking people, if you know what I mean.
The city of San Fransisco is a colorful one, but I couldn't help but think of New Orleans as I walked throughout the streets. The city, to me, seemed like New Orleans but with steep hills!!! The streets were littered with trash, the smell of sewage lingered in the air, the roads had an abundance of pot holes, you could only ever parallel park and what disturbed me the most was the amount of homeless people I saw. As we drove down Folsom street, we saw about 50 tents on either sides of the sidewalk where human beings were dwelling. It was a haunting and heart-breaking sight. After doing some research, I discovered that San Fransisco's homeless population is second only to New York City's! That shocked me.
I wanted to know why! I wanted to know why there were countless people living in tents on the streets, so I did some research into it. According to San Fransisco's 2014 point in time survey, 48% of the homeless populace said that they couldn't afford rent.
San Fransisco's cost of living ranks 4th highest in the United States, making it 77.2% above the US average. The average rent for an apartment in San Fransisco is $3,548 a month. That's 3.5 times the national average for rent.
Well, that's all for now, folks!!!
